The Department Administrator (DA) is the lead provider of administrative and clerical support to the Department Chair, faculty, and staff in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics within the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS). This position ensures the smooth day-to-day operations of the department. Duties include handling financial administration (financial reporting, oversight and payment of student workers, procurement, reimbursement, etc.), office management (communications, events, supplies, facilities, etc.), providing instructional support (assistance with course scheduling, liaise with registrar, updating course catalog, etc.), assisting in human resource management (hiring/termination paperwork for faculty, affiliates/postdocs and students), and helping with ad-hoc tasks relevant to the department's mission.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Financial Administration.
  • Office Management.
  • Human Resource Management.
  • Instructional Support.
  • Special Projects/Other Duties as Assigned.


    Work Interactions

    The DA is one of the main portals into the department and the DA must be prepared to meet and interact with all persons and organizations that have business with the department. The DA must maintain good working relations with the faculty, staff and students in order to support all research, instructional and service missions of the department. Professionalism, excellent oral and written communication skills, cordial relationships and service-minded attitudes are essential for an efficient and successful department operation.

    This position reports directly to the Department Chair. In this position, the incumbent fulfills the role as a Department Administrator in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), and in this capacity (finance, business operations, recruitment, hiring) has a direct reporting relationship with the CAS Dean's Office.

    Requirements and Qualifications
    • A Bachelor's degree
    • Two to three years of office management and administrative coordination experience is required
    • Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access), Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat Pro
    • Knowledge of web-design (WordPress), web-maintenance and university systems for academic records, scheduling and admissions is important
    • Experience in administering an academic department and all accompanying duties including purchasing, ordering, scheduling and reporting preferred

      Pay Range:

      The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
      $44,022.00 - $73,406.80

      Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
