PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community. A major focus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative with the goal to discover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers. In addition, the CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewable affinity binding reagents for use in cancer related research. CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to develop novel therapeutics for KRAS-driven cancers
  • Contribute to profile small molecule drug candidates and elucidate drug mechanism of action
  • Perform cellular screening assays to discover small molecule modulators of RAS/cancer targets
  • Perform, analyze, and report weekly screening results in hit-to-lead drug discovery campaign

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of a PhD degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)or eight (8) years of related experience. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Ph.D. in cell/cancer biology, biochemistry, or related field
  • No experience required beyond doctoral degree
  • Proven track record of rigorous and detail-oriented science with direct experience working with variety of tissue/cell types and growth conditions, including 3D culture
  • Scientific expertise in drug discovery cellular screening assays
  • Experience working with small molecule therapeutics and drug mechanism of action
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • 3+ years of hands-on postdoctoral experience
  • Experience with compound screening (e.g. FRET, mass spectrometry-based)
  • Familiarity with cancer signal transduction pathways, especially RAS signaling
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and execute goals as a member of larger interdisciplinary team, and ability to execute experiments with high level of rigor and independence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
