PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP) is an integrated, multidisciplinary program that performs cutting-edge research in in an effort to improve our understanding of AIDS-associated disease, including studies intended to facilitate the improved diagnosis, prevention and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS. The Program consists of five independent, but highly interactive research Sections headed by Principal Investigators, whose work spans from fundamental molecular virology through in vitro studies, to in vivo studies in non-human primate (NHP) models. The ACVP also has eight Research Support Core Groups (Cores) that provide critical and often unique technical support capabilities to ACVP laboratories and other laboratories within the NCI and NIH, and to extramural investigators.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Post-doctoral Fellow will conduct research with Dr. Brandon Keele, Senior Principal Scientist within the ACVP
• The research projects will utilize state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to facilitate studies of nonhuman primate (NHP) models to understand viral transmission, immune evasion and viral reservoir establishment/viral eradication strategies

• Possession of a PhD, MD or DVM degree with emphasis in areas of virology, molecular biology or immunology, or related field from an accredited college or university (according to CHEA). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

• Skilled in techniques of molecular virology, cell biology, and immunology.
• High degree of proficiency in both verbal and written scientific communication
• Highly motivated, able to conceive and perform original research, and work well both in a team and independently
• This position will allow for periodic travel to scientific meetings when appropriate

• This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to animal(s) and/or animal material(s)
• This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations
