JOB INFORMATION

POSITION DETAILS:

Non-exempt; part-time year-round position; working up to 20 hours per week; assigned hours may include weekdays, weekends/evening hours and events; no benefits

This person is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating activities and providing instruction to teens ages 12-17. This position will facilitate programs to promote teen development through skill building, volunteer projects/connecting teens to the community, and expanding personal interests. Location, schedule and duration of each class/program will be determined as appropriate. Necessary equipment will be provided by the Division of Parks and Recreation. Supervision is received from the Recreation Specialist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate lesson plans and course outlines
  • Assure the return and condition of issued equipment and supplies
  • Compile and maintain recordkeeping related to each class (e.g. attendance)
  • Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Experience providing related instruction in a leadership role to teens
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR (infant/child and adult), or able to become so certified within 60 days of hire (current certifications must be maintained throughout employment)

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of how to actively and positively engage teens through teen focused recreation programs, activities, classes that promotes learning, leadership, good character, and the development of skills in a fun and safe environment
  • Strong understanding of the development needs of this age group
  • Ability to effectively prepare and carry out lesson plans (as appropriate)
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise large and small groups in recreational activities
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working/teaching relationships with co-workers, participants and their family members, and the general public
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills in order to conduct classes and perform related record-keeping

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical requirements include the ability to actively participate in the sport/activity presented as part of the instruction process, and to transport, set-up and take-down related equipment

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / EXAMINATION PROCESS

  • Ability and willingness to participate in program planning
  • Ability to provide own transportation as needed

EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include):

1) An evaluation of training and experience

2) One or more interviews

3) A pre-employment background investigation
