General Summary of PositionAre you an experienced nurse looking for an opportunity to formally lead? The Assistant Nursing Director role is a great position that allows you to remain close to the bedside while serving as a front-line nurse leader. MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated and engaged Assistant Nursing Director to lead the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team. As a member of our Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this specialized field.Position OverviewIn collaboration with the Nursing Director, the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the PACU at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The role involves fostering staff commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-effective patient care outcomes. You will direct and coordinate nursing and patient care delivery by unit-based professional and support personnel, promoting an environment aligned with the Division of Nursing and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values.Unit HighlightsThe Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) cares for patients recovering from general anesthesia, MAC moderate sedation, and pain blocks. The 23-bay PACU primarily serves adult in-patient and outpatient procedures. The nursing focus is on basic life-sustaining needs, requiring constant vigilance during the immediate post-anesthesia period. Staff communication with patients and families ensures an optimal experience during this vulnerable time.Key Responsibilities

• Develop department goals and objectives in collaboration with the Nurse Director, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Provide shift-based clinical leadership, role modeling professional behaviors, delegating activities appropriately, and managing the nursing team to promote satisfaction and engagement.
• Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and other departments to ensure seamless patient care.
• Participate in patient rounding to review patient status and engage with patients and families.
• Assist in hiring, evaluating, promoting, and terminating staff, and initiate coaching and counseling as needed.
• Maintain clinical knowledge and skills, providing direct care to a caseload of patients as required.
• Assume administrative responsibilities in the absence of the director and provide coverage for colleagues as needed.Why Join Us

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (Master's preferred)
  • DC RN License
  • Approximately three to four years of progressively responsible related experience
